The De La Espada Solo Dining Chair is a graceful reinterpretation of a design classic, drawing inspiration from the iconic Eames Shell Chair, but reimagined with elevated materials and a sculptural, human-centred form. With a curved, upholstered shell in Coda 232 and a warm Danish Oiled Walnut base, this chair offers a refined sense of comfort and quiet sophistication, making it equally suited to residential dining rooms or elegant commercial spaces.

Designed to embrace the sitter, the Solo Chair creates a sense of personal retreat within its gently contoured shell. The curved back and generous upholstery provide both physical support and a feeling of calm enclosure—offering a moment of stillness within busy environments. Its form is compact yet expressive, combining thoughtful ergonomics with the kind of material richness that invites long, comfortable use.

Handcrafted at De La Espada’s solar-powered factory in Portugal, the chair’s solid walnut frame is constructed using traditional joinery techniques and finished by hand with non-toxic Danish oil, enhancing the natural grain and tone of the wood. Upholstered in Coda 232, a premium textile by Kvadrat known for its bold weave and lasting durability, the Solo Dining Chair is as practical as it is elegant—a piece that quietly enhances its surroundings while offering a deeply considered experience for the individual.
Danish Oiled Walnut for Lasting Beauty

Sourced from the midwestern United States, American black walnut is revered for its strength and rich, expressive grain. Each piece offers unique colour variation, from deep chocolate tones to lighter blond sapwood. Finished with Danish oil, the timber’s natural beauty is enhanced while maintaining a surface that can be renewed over time.

Coda 2 Texture

Woven with a distinctive two-tone texture, Coda 2 – 232 is a tactile upholstery fabric designed by Raf Simons for Kvadrat. Its soft beige tone is subtly enlivened by deeper threads, adding depth and complexity to the surface. With a structured weave and a Martindale rating of 100,000 rubs, it offers both visual interest and exceptional durability, ideal for sculptural seating and everyday use.

From Forest to Finish

Produced in De La Espada’s solar-powered workshop near Portugal’s Silver Coast, each piece is crafted by independent master artisans. Combining modern precision with traditional handwork, the process is tailored to bring out the finest qualities of every material used.

Intricate Joinery for Lasting Integrity

Rather than opting for simplified construction, De La Espada products are composed of multiple precisely crafted components. This intricate joinery allows for optimal timber grain direction, refined shaping, and durable long grain-to-long grain bonds—resulting in furniture with unmatched depth, strength, and detail.
