The De La Espada Carlton Bed blends modern elegance with historic character, drawing inspiration from the architectural layering found in Brooklyn brownstones, where contemporary living meets timeless detail. This king bed frame in Black Oiled Walnut is defined by its sculpted timber structure and softened by an upholstered Harald 242 headboard, creating a restful focal point that’s both refined and inviting.

Sharing its design language with the Elliot Table and Chair, the Carlton Bed is constructed from a series of precisely carved wood components that celebrate the natural grain and variation of solid walnut. The frame’s clean geometry is grounded by its material richness, while the upholstered headboard adds comfort and a tactile counterpoint to the dark, moody timber. The result is a piece that feels architectural yet intimate, ideal for serene bedrooms with a sense of permanence and style.

Crafted at De La Espada’s solar-powered workshop in Portugal, the Carlton Bed is built for lasting beauty. Sustainably sourced walnut is hand-finished with a non-toxic black oil that enhances its depth and character, while traditional joinery techniques ensure enduring strength. The Harald 242 upholstery, woven by a leading Danish textile partner, brings a soft, velvet-like texture that complements the sculptural frame, adding a layer of luxury to everyday rest.
Danish Oiled Walnut for Lasting Beauty

Sourced from the midwestern United States, American black walnut is revered for its strength and rich, expressive grain. Each piece offers unique colour variation, from deep chocolate tones to lighter blond sapwood. Finished with Danish oil, the timber’s natural beauty is enhanced while maintaining a surface that can be renewed over time.

Harald 242

Harald 242 is a finely woven, short-pile velour made from 100% cotton, offering a sumptuously soft hand feel and a deep, charcoal-grey tone. Designed by Raf Simons and Fanny Aronsen, it brings refined elegance to upholstered pieces. With a Martindale rating of 100,000 rubs, it pairs luxurious texture with exceptional durability—perfect alongside the depth of dark-stained timber.

From Forest to Finish

Produced in De La Espada’s solar-powered workshop near Portugal’s Silver Coast, each piece is crafted by independent master artisans. Combining modern precision with traditional handwork, the process is tailored to bring out the finest qualities of every material used.

Intricate Joinery for Lasting Integrity

Rather than opting for simplified construction, De La Espada products are composed of multiple precisely crafted components. This intricate joinery allows for optimal timber grain direction, refined shaping, and durable long grain-to-long grain bonds—resulting in furniture with unmatched depth, strength, and detail.
