The Here Comes The Sun Pendant Light, designed by French architect Bertrand Balas in 1970, is a lighting piece that transcends its function to deliver a sensory and emotional experience. Inspired by the sunrise and sunsets over the Garonne River in his hometown of Toulouse, Balas created a pendant that balances simplicity in form with poetic expression in light. What appears at first to be a conventional spherical lamp becomes something far more profound once lit.

This pendant is celebrated for its magical transformation when illuminated. The glow it emits isn’t harsh or direct—it’s layered, diffused, and warm, softening the darkness and creating a sense of comfort and calm. Whether hung as a single statement or in a cluster, the Here Comes The Sun Pendant creates a visual and emotional focal point that evokes the slow descent of the sun on the horizon.

Its clean, rounded shape speaks to timeless minimalism, while its ability to alter the atmosphere of a room gives it an undeniably modern resonance. The pendant is especially well-suited for spaces that call for mood-enhancing lighting—dining areas, entryways, lounges, or bedrooms—anywhere that benefits from subtle illumination and visual serenity.

Designed not just to light a space but to transform it, the Here Comes The Sun Pendant is a thoughtful blend of form and feeling. It invites a new way of experiencing light—one that comforts, captivates, and connects us to nature’s daily rhythm. A timeless tribute to light’s gentler side, this pendant continues to enchant more than fifty years after its creation.
Compatible Light Source

The pendant is designed for an E14 LED or ESL bulb, giving users flexibility when selecting their preferred light output. The bulb is not included, allowing customised brightness and colour temperature.

Sculptural Light and Shadow Effect

The layered construction creates a distinctive interplay of light and shadow. When switched on, the interior glow contrasts with the outer shell, adding depth, visual intrigue, and a soft ambient halo.

Setting Sun Inspired Design

Inspired by the setting sun, this pendant creates a warm and atmospheric effect when illuminated. Its rounded form and carefully shaped light output give interiors a gentle, calming presence without feeling overly decorative.

About The Designer
Bertrand Balas began as a designer in 1962 in France. He believes one must have the spirit free of all usual constraints of an agency of architecture to permit it to gallop in spaces where it loses itself, to imagine shapes, volumes, colours and matters and most of all to allow oneself to derive in time, stretched time, without precise obligations, and to try to formalise something which, in this way, appears.
