Liebherr's history reveals a family-run company at heart
A chance conversation at his local bank sparked an idea in company founder Hans Liebherr. When he heard about a fridge factory for sale, he didn’t just see machines, he saw a future. At a time when only one in ten German homes owned a refrigerator, he sensed a rising demand. Instead of buying the factory, he chose to build his own from the ground up in Ochsenhausen. In 1954, the first Liebherr fridge rolled off the line there. It’s still where Liebherr crafts their high-quality fridges and freezers today.
