After more than ten years of reliable service, our old Dyson vacuum cleaner finally reached the end of its life. We were extremely satisfied with its performance and longevity, so naturally, when it came time for a replacement, we looked to Dyson again. Unfortunately, it appears that Dyson has shifted away from its traditional drag-along barrel vacuums, now focusing more on rechargeable stick models. Personally, I am not a fan of these stick vacuums due to their ongoing costs for battery replacements, shorter operating time, and noticeably reduced suction power compared to corded models. After some research, we decided on the Dyson Big Ball Barrel Vacuum Cleaner, which seemed to offer a good balance between performance, design, and price. Since purchasing it, we have been using it regularly—every day or two—and it has performed well for general household cleaning. The suction power is strong, and the unit maintains consistent performance. The design is straightforward, and the filter system is easy to remove and clean, which makes maintenance simple and convenient. However, there are a few downsides worth mentioning. Some of the components, such as the on/off button, feel a little cheap and flimsy compared to older Dyson models. It is also disappointing that the Big Ball is not compatible with parts and attachments from our previous Dyson, which means we cannot reuse existing accessories. Additionally, the vacuum is slightly bulkier to store than earlier designs, though this is a minor inconvenience overall. In summary, the Dyson Big Ball Barrel Vacuum Cleaner has proven to be a solid and reliable replacement for our old model. While it is unfortunate that Dyson no longer offers as many traditional barrel-style options, this unit performs well and meets our expectations. It remains a dependable choice for those who prefer the power and simplicity of a corded vacuum over the limitations of a stick model.
