In case you missed it, the Margaret River “Gourmet Escape” was recently held in spectacular style.
Winning Appliances happened to be on hand to participate in this festival of the foodie, as well as proudly sponsoring a number of events.
What is the Gourmet Escape?
For the uninitiated, the Gourmet Escape is a festival celebrating food, wine and the finest culinary expertise - all in the Margaret River valley, one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
Running from the 18th-20th November, it is a unique opportunity to discover the best local produce and vintages while meeting a lineup of internationally-celebrated chefs.
Please note - this is an annual event - which means, of course, if you missed out this time, be sure to put it in your calendar for next year.
This year, nearly 19,000 visitors embraced the chance to experience Western Australia’s sensational culinary wares across 45 special events, set in over 20 locations including vineyards, in a cave, nestled in the forest, on the beach and out at sea.

An inspirational weekend
Special guest, UK’s queen of the kitchen, Nigella Lawson opened the festival with fellow luminaries including Ashley Palmer-Watts from Dinner by Heston, which was followed by a stunning opening night party held at Dunsborough’s pristine Castle Rock Bay. Attendees of this soiree were served a delicious smorgasbord of food and wine on the beach-front, which was dotted with tents that were lit up in the twilight, setting the stage for a weekend that was a feast for the senses.
Nigella was joined by an impressive lineup of luminaries from the cutting-edge of the culinary zeitgeist, including English chef, restaurateur, cook book author and TV presenter Rick Stein, San Francisco’s Dominique Crenn (Atelier Crenn & Petit Crenn, USA) who was recently named The World’s Best Female Chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Joan Roca (from El Celler de Can Roca in Spain) and Mauro Colagreco (from Mirazur, France - rated 6th best restaurant in the world) to name a few.
Some of the many highlights included the Feast in the Forest, a celebration of wood-and-flame cooking in a magnificent karri forest setting, the Gourmet Beach BBQ dinner - a chance to savour the stunning produce and laid-back coastal lifestyle of WA - and dining by twilight at Margaret River’s Secret Garden.

A Winning connection
