Located at Federation square in Melbourne, the Greenhouse Future Food System is a self-sustaining, closed loop, two bedroom home that is designed to shelter, feed and provide energy for its inhabitants. The human-driven system mimics nature: upcycling what we currently regard as ‘waste’, in order to grow nutrient dense, delicious produce.

Well-known for his unique approach to sustainable building, design and living, this latest project from Joost Bakker is an 87-square-metre pop-up home and urban farm in Melbourne’s Vibrant city centre.
Using Miele appliances, this sustainable pop-up wholeheartedly embraces the zero waste philosophy, embarking on a quest to demystify self-sufficiency and showcase the ability to bring sustainability in everyday life.

Every appliance featured in the house operates on solar power, and has been carefully considered to ensure it meets both Miele’s and Joost’s high expectations for energy efficiency.

Award-winning chefs Matt Stone and Jo Barrett are central to the project. Their residency involves farming and harvesting food sourced and grown on site, whilst showcasing their produce through inspiring meals with the latest Miele appliances.

Miele WWV980WPS Front-Loading Washing Machine and Miele TWV680WP Heat-Pump Tumble Dryer in the laundry, all appliances will operate on solar power and the costs of every aspect of the project will be made available to the public to show that green living doesn’t have to cost the earth.
