October Food News – What’s Happening In The Aussie Food Scene This Month

In this month’s round up of Australian food news we’re talking about the expansion of our favourite café and coffee roaster in Sydney, fun ways to celebrate Oktoberfest and the latest social media food trend heading to Aussie shores, Coffee In A Cone.

Grounds Of Alexandria Opening On The North Shore

The Grounds of Alexandria

Rumour has it that the Grounds Of Alexandria, one of our favourite cafés, roaster and restaurant in one, is bringing its own special brand of brunch to the North Shore of Sydney. The new Grounds is set to open in the Lower North Shore and promises to be a food-filled and greenery-decked hipster hangout like the Alexandria original. There’s no set date for the opening as yet but we’re already wondering if Kevin Bacon the pet pig will be moving over?

Celebrate National Pizza Month

The Grounds of Alexandria

October is National Pizza Month in the States and this is a celebration we’re very happy to adopt. In Sydney The Beresford Hotel will be honouring the occasion by selling all pizzas for $10 throughout the entire month. Sounds like a good excuse to order a pizza (or 2) to us!

Oktoberfest in the Gardens

The Grounds of Alexandria

What’s October without Bavarian beer? If your schedule doesn’t allow a jaunt to Germany this month then celebrate Oktoberfest Down Under at Oktoberfest in the Gardens. The events in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney will involve roving performers, beer, German food, beer, a silent disco, and more beer! Sydney’s event will feature two enormous beer halls overflowing with imported brews and every guest gets a free 500ml stein sample. Find out more.

Coffee In A Cone Coming To Sydney?

Coffee Cone in Sydney

The latest food craze creating a storm on social media is a smart and eco-friendly way to consume coffee. Coffee In A Cone is the invention of The Grind Coffee Company from Johannesburg, South Africa who serve their cappuccinos and espressos in chocolate-lined waffle cones. Despite our initial doubts we’ve tried this trend out for ourselves and it’s perfect for those who like their coffee with a sweet treat - although you’ve got 10 minutes max to drink your coffee before the cone melts! Fancy trying coffee in a cone for yourself? Rumour has it they’ll be available on Aussie shores very soon. Check out the #coffeeinacone hashtag on social media for further updates.
