Glass House by Ardo

As seen in the Winnings Design & Culinary Guide Issue 08

Ardo Architecture’s stunning makeover incorporates quality at every touchpoint.

It’s difficult to know where to look first upon encountering this stunningly renovated single-front worker’s cottage in Melbourne’s inner-urban Richmond, but a glance at the finer details speaks volumes to the overall quality achieved.

Throughout the massive upgrade and extension project undertaken by Ardo Architecture and the Halex Group, high-quality appliances abound, nowhere more evident than in the kitchen and bathrooms, where a selection of Rogerseller tapware and accessories take pride of place.

In the kitchen, a Rogerseller Eccentric Hob Sink Mixer and Outlet with Pull Out Spray forms an arresting centrepiece in combination with the adjacent Pitt Natural Gas Cooktop. The Eccentric mixer combines a distinct off-centre axis with a concealed back-plate. It displays hot and cold indicators when the handle is operated and utilises innovative German progressive cartridge technology.

A highlight of the newly-created first-floor space is the modern main bathroom featuring a refined and classic aesthetic enhanced by an abundance of natural light, plus a carefully considered selection of Australian-manufactured Rogerseller appliances.

These include the Eccentric Hob Mixer with Swivel Outlet, featuring the subtle curves that are synonymous with the Eccentric design. A 260mm Rogerseller Eccentric Shower Rose has a notably slimline rim and offers Rogerseller’s proprietary Quad Spray pattern for a generous yet soft downpour.

Given the narrow, deep allotment and shared side wall that are typical of the home’s original 1890s construction, Ardo Architecture has done a wonderful job of retaining the period appeal of the facade, meanwhile implementing a thoroughly modern reimagining of the rear section.

This includes open-plan living and a cosy fireplace beneath a soaring six-metre ceiling, along with expansive glazing that offers stunning views of the Melbourne CBD, along with a tranquil and secluded outdoor escape.
