At Winning Appliances, we love products that bring a sense of inspiration and excitement to the kitchen.
Right now, we’d like to shine some light on a range of fridges which have become the canvas for gorgeously hand-painted artwork, dynamically reimagining the aesthetic possibilities of this humble appliance.
It’s the result of a remarkable collaboration involving two of the most iconic Italian brands: Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana. This unlikely partnership between manufacturer and luxury fashion house has led to a unique fusion of art and domestic functionality.
And an example of these gorgeous fridges is now on display at Winning Appliances!
Launched to international acclaim at the Milan Design Fair in April 2016, these luxury appliances merge Smeg’s functionality and performance with the dazzling colours and vibrant imagery of Sicily for which Dolce & Gabbana are famed.
Each fridge is resplendent in a design that is the result of painstaking work by an individual Sicilian artist, all living and working practitioners especially commissioned for this project. Embellished with vibrant patterns and floral motifs, these distinctively Sicilian tableaus are painted by hand, a laborious production process that has had to try keep pace with a growing list of interested buyers!
Artists include renowned Sicilian practitioners Gianfranco Fiore, Tommaso Provenzano and Michelangelo Lacagnina, the latter capturing evocative scenes from Sicilian life for his two fridge designs: a fisherman with his catch against the backdrop of Mount Etna and a farmer picking fruit amidst a verdant field of lemons and sunflowers.
And now you have to the chance to view one of these beautiful appliances first-hand. Australia’s first D&G refrigerator, painted by Sicilian brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Bevilacqua, is on display at Winnings’ brand new Kingston store in the ACT.

Characterised by a chromatic explosion of yellows and reds inspired by the Sicilian sun and the lava of Mt Etna, the work features sumptuous friezes and rich geometric patterns depicting the battle between Argante and Tancredi and another with Anthea of Babylon.
Just one hundred are destined to be released and with no two refrigerators the same - yet each reflecting the passion for style and design that both of these famous brands espouse as core tenets - they are destined to be prized collector’s items in years to come.
Prices and availability in Australia are subject to application - visit your nearest Winning Appliances showroom for more information. And if you are in the Canberra area, be sure to come in-store to our Kingston showroom to view the beautiful fridge!
