Situated 25kms north of Perth, the City of Joondalup boasts 17kms of stunning Indian Ocean coastline and the award winning Hillarys Boat Harbour. For customers visiting our newest store in Perth, we’ve created this guide to the best places to see, shop and eat in Joondalup.
Warning: you will be tempted by multiple mentions of the word ‘patisserie’!
See
Hilarys Boat Harbour is not only the gateway for tours to Rottnest Island, as well as other water-based activities including diving and whale-watching, but is also a destination in itself. You can easily spend half a day hanging out at the waterfront restaurants and browsing the boutique art and souvenir shops. The whole precinct is very family-friendly, kids will love the ice cream parlours and onsite attractions including AQWA – The Aquarium of Western Australia.

Joondalup is also an area of incredible natural beauty and if you’d like to stretch your legs after a morning of appliance shopping, make like the locals do and walk or cycle the Sunset Coast pathway from Marmion to Burns Beach. If you’re lucky you may spot seals and dolphins, or, if you’re very lucky, even a migrating whale or two (depending on the season).

Shop
You’ll find a number of DIY stores near to our Joondalup showroom so it’s easy to shop for your home renovation whilst in the vicinity.
If you’d like more shopping options, including furniture and fashion stores, then you can’t get any more choice than at Lakeside Joondalup, the largest shopping centre in Western Australia. After redevelopment in 2014, Lakeside Joondalup boasts a huge selection of local and international fashion and lifestyle brands, including Perth’s only H&M.
Sip
Taking latte art to a whole new level is Moments Café on Davidson Terrace (just a short walk from Lakeside shopping centre). Customers at Moments Café rave about the great coffee and friendly service but it’s the surprise images staff create with the coffee foam that have really got people talking. Cats, bears and beaches have all featured on the coffee at Moments. Pop in to see what they create for you!

Eat
Bringing a taste of the French bakeries to Western Australia is Sugar and Spice Patisserie, a family run business which has been in operation since 1996. You’ll be spoilt for choice by their range of intricately made French pastries – we can’t resist the custard nut tart.

If you’d like to learn how to make these sweet treats for yourself book a class at the Sweet Artist Academy. Suitable for bakers of all levels, the patisserie training centre will show you how to create mouth-watering cakes including cronuts and red velvet mud cakes, as well as help you master the basics of baking bread. Run by Patrick Vuaillat, a pastry chef with 39 years in the industry, you’ll have just as much fun sampling the results as you will creating them!
