Food styling tips – The perfect antipasto plate

On Saturday, Winning Appliances together with Emma Knowles, Food Editor of Gourmet Traveller Australia, hosted a session at Sydney’s Home Food & Design Weekend about how to prepare the perfect antipasto plate.

Emma offered many gems of advice for budding food stylists and those who love to entertain at home. We’ve summarised a handful of her best tips for styling an antipasto board here!

  1. Mix the traditional marinated and cured elements of antipasto with fresh elements (such as freshly blanched beans) for a great contrast
  2. Whole chunks of parmesan that guests can crumble themselves look fantastic
  3. Good quality prosciutto – as thinly sliced as possible – is best. Style it in high piles: this adds height to your board and is also easy for guests to pick up.
  4. The key to making any dish look good is to use lots of fresh herbs. Consider your combinations too, different textures look (and taste) great together.
  5. To complement a traditional antipasto board, a salad of colourful ripe tomatoes (use reds, yellows and greens) with curls of buffalo mozzarella and burrata looks beautiful and tastes delicious. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and enjoy with crostini, either whole or crushed and sprinkled over the top.

Thanks to Emma and Gourmet Traveller for an insightful and inspiring session!
